M'mother had a birthday coming up and this lady that was minding us, said we'd surprise your mum, we'd have a birthday party for her. Anyway we had a beautiful table all set with jelly and cakes she'd baked ... she says, "Be a surprise for her when she comes home". We were expecting her about half past seven, well we got sirens going, so therefore we had to pull the blinds down and the curtains across to keep all the electric lights out from showing, because you used to get told off, they used to fine you if you were showing too much light, on account of the German bombers, It started and it was really going hell for leather with these bombs, and it got so bad the windows blew in, and the table went upturned and all the stuff that was on the table went on the floor and the lovely surprise for m'mam ... Oh it was a shock.
